The Latest: Hutton's comments
Speaking to Football Insider about Richarlison's performances at the World Cup, Hutton, who is now a BBC Radio 5 Live pundit, backed the Brazilian to stay put, but hinted a 'huge' bid could change things:
"We all knew he was a fantastic player. He has gone to the World Cup and absolutely shined. He is the leader for that team at the moment.
"Of course there is going to be teams watching his performances, knowing what he is capable of. So it does not surprise me.
“Tottenham will want to hold on to him. They put a lot of money into the deal so they will want to keep him for the future. They are building something for the future.
“Unless it is a huge amount of money to take him away from there, I am not sure it will happen.“
The Verdict: Great news for Tottenham
Given that the 25-year-old is currently contracted until 2027 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs are in a very strong position, where they can either choose to keep a player in fantastic form, or hold out for an astronomical sum to allow him to leave.
If the former is the preferred option, there are also signs at club level that Antonio Conte has a top player on his hands, with the Brazilian, who has recently been hailed as 'incredible' by journalist John Bennett, netting twice in the Lilywhites' 2-0 Champions League triumph against Marseille, securing what proved to be a vital win.
It seems far too early for Conte to part with his £60m summer signing, and he should instead be given a run of games upon the resumption of the Premier League, but it wouldn't be the first time one of the Spanish giants have coughed up mega money for a Premier League Brazilian, as Philippe Coutinho's switch to Barcelona proved to be a huge success for Liverpool.
