Tottenham Hotspur are following Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri to replace Antonio Conte this summer if he decides to leave, according to a report.

The Lowdown: Conte's future in doubt

Conte's current contract with Tottenham is set to expire at the end of the season,  and while the club do possess an option to extend his stay by another year, they have previously been eager to tie him down to a more long-term deal.

With the Italian yet to commit to a new contract, however, it is believed that Spurs have started to look at potential replacements, and Sarri is now on the radar.

The Latest: Interested in Sarri

According to a report from CalcioMercato, Tottenham are 'following' the former Chelsea boss, in light of Conte's future at the club being no guarantee next season, with their current manager being tipped to take over at AC Milan.

Milan boss Stefano Pioli is said to be having a difficult season, and his departure would open the door for Conte to make a return to the San Siro, with Sarri then leaving Lazio for Spurs.

The Verdict: Right move?

Hailed as extraordinary by Jorginho (via Daily Mail), the 64-year-old did enjoy some success last time he managed in England, winning the 2018-19 Europa League with Chelsea.

The Napoli-born tactician mainly favours an attacking 4-3-3 formation, which indicates that he could bring an exciting brand of football to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, however Daniel Levy's aim should still be to keep hold of Conte.

Spurs have not had an amazing season, but they are still only two points off the top four in the Premier League, while they are also through to the last 16 of the Champions League.

The 53-year-old has a proven track record, winning five league titles in his managerial career, and Tottenham should resume talks about extending his contract as soon as possible.
