Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, Spurs legend Gary Mabbutt has heaped praise on young summer signing Sergio Reguilon as a player with ‘fantastic’ potential – coming after an inside claim emerged that he is blowing Jose Mourinho away behind the scenes.
Reguilon, who became Spurs’ fourth summer acquisition in what was a very fruitful window, joining the ‘super seven’ brought in by chairman Daniel Levy, has gone on to become, arguably, one of Tottenham’s best buys so far.
Along with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty, the Spanish starlet has thoroughly impressed for Mourinho – justifying the potential £32 million fee paid to bring him to north London.
Mabbutt wowed by Reguilon
Following his stellar outings, a claim emerged from Football Insider that he was blowing the Spurs boss and his staff away behind the scenes – with words such as ‘phenomenal’ being used to describe him in training.
Mabbutt has now joined in on the praise, and it’s safe to say he is also impressed.
“Sergio, on the left hand side, I think has got fantastic potential,” he explained to The Transfer Tavern.
“He could be a great player for us.”

Starting five Premier League games already this season, Reguilon has also managed two assists from the left in that time (WhoScored) – with one of them teeing up fellow summer signing and former Real Madrid teammate Gareth Bale for the winner against Brighton.
He also put in a stellar one-on-one defensive performance against Man City winger Riyad Mahrez recently, prompting Mourinho to buy him a £500 Spanish ham for his efforts.
Following his start to life in England’s top flight, Mabbutt could be correct in saying Spurs have a real talent on their hands.
