Editor-in-chief at Forza Italian Football, Conor Clancy, believes that Antonio Conte will be impressed with Tottenham overall, but reckons him and Daniel Levy could face issues over transfers.
Conte, who won both the Premier League and FA Cup during his only two seasons in English football, could make an instant return to management after The Athletic confirmed that the former Chelsea boss is in advanced talks to replace Jose Mourinho at Spurs.
Should Tottenham hire Pochettino?
It’s just over a month since the Italian guided Inter Milan to their first Serie A title for 11 years, but Conte left his role at the San Siro last week following a breakdown in communication with the owners over finances and transfers.
Having led Inter to the Europa League final in his first campaign, Conte went one better and romped to the title having only suffered three league defeats all season, ending Juventus’ domination of Italian football.
That was Conte’s fifth league title, four of which have been Serie A’s, continuing his reputation as a serial winner, and someone that would be a major attraction to Levy and Tottenham.
But following his recent problems which led to his departure at Inter, Clancy is wary of a possible repeat with the Spurs chairman.
He told The Transfer Tavern:
“Nothing about anything that Spurs have done suggests that they’re going to sign players and do what Chelsea and City have done in recent years and really invest to take themselves up to the next level.
“Conte will be impressed by the stadium, the training facilities, and the squad that he has there or would have there, but there is not going to be the signings that he needs or demands. “
