It has been a good seven days for Tottenham Hotspur, as they have picked up great victories against Manchester City and Ludogorets.
Former Spurs player Gary Mabbutt has spoken to The Transfer Tavern about the club’s form and he has plenty of praise for Pierre-Emilie Hojbjerg.
What Mabbutt had to say about Hojbjerg
Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, Mabbutt said: “I think Hojbjerg has been the catalyst for the for the whole team’s improvement to some degree. I think he’s been fantastic. Obviously, I liked him when he was at Southampton. I think he can break things up, he can make things happen.
“For me, you get a solid back four with Pierre sitting in front of you. I think you’ve got a lot of protection there. Overall, I’ve been delighted with the way he settled in at the club. He’s coming into the side. Yeah, I believe Hojbjerg will be a Spurs captain.”
The signing is a Levy masterclass
With the lack of depth during the start of the window at right-back (Serge Aurier was previously expected to leave), selling Kyle Walker-Peters for £11.97 million to Southampton in order to help fund the £14.94 million signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg seemed like a risk.
However they strengthened the right-back position by signing Matt Doherty for what many thought was a really cheap fee (£15.12 million). Therefore, not only did they bring in a more experienced full-back, but they also only signed the Danish midfielder for only £2.97 million if when taking into account the sale of Walker-Peters.
It is easy to see why the midfielder has been praised so much by Mabbutt too. In his nine league appearances, Hojbjerg has managed two clearances and a whopping 3.2 tackles per game, and this highlights how he is providing a lot of support for the defence (WhoScored). If these solid displays continue, Hojbjerg can definitely achieve a lot at the club.
