Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, Spurs legend Gary Mabbutt has heaped praise on Son Heung-min amid talks that he is about to sign a bumper new contract – describing him as Tottenham’s ‘best player for the last two or three years’.
Mabbutt, who was a Lilywhites mainstay himself, acknowledges Son as a truly crucial asset for manager Jose Mourinho – whilst also lauding the South Korea star as ‘very humble’ and a ‘great character’.
Other figures in the media have previously claimed how ‘very underrated‘ he is in regards to the long list of Premier League superstars, with Mabbutt supporting this theory and lavishing the ‘great lad’ with praise amid claims he could about to become one of Spurs’ top earners.
Son lavished with praise
Indeed, as reported by Football Insider, chairman Daniel Levy is currently in advanced talks to tie down Son with a bumper new deal – and Tottenham are potentially about to secure a crucial star.
“He’s been our best player for the last two or three years, the assist the goals, his attitude, he’s always got a smile on his face,” Mabbutt explained to The Transfer Tavern.
“He’s always been very humble. He’s always a great guy to talk to. He’s very happy with the fans after matches.
“He’s always smiling. And so yeah, I mean, he’s a great lad, a great character. But on the field, I mean, every time he gets the ball, I think as a fan, you’re excited you think something’s going to happen.
“Son is certainly up there with the top Spurs players.”
Transfer Tavern take
Given he has bagged nine goals and two assists already this season in the Premier League, it’s hard to argue with Mabbutt’s assessment.
If Tottenham can tie him down with a bumper new £200,000-per-week deal, it’s safe to say Levy will have completed a smart piece of business.
