Tottenham Hotspur pundit John Wenham has spoken out after rivals' criticism of star striker Harry Kane.

The Lowdown: Kane close to England record...

Following the latest round of international fixtures, the 29-year-old took a big step closer to an historic England landmark after his converted penalty against Germany.

Kane moved within two goals of Wayne Rooney's record 53 for the Three Lions, and barring a complete disaster, it appears that he could move past the former Manchester United star and become England's record scorer.

This apparently prompted discussion on social media as to where Spurs' superstar ranks when it comes to the country's best-ever forwards, with Wenham stating his disbelief over the course that the debate took.

The Latest: Wenham defends Kane...

Speaking to Football Insider, Wenham claimed that it is 'about time' Kane got more credit when it comes to rival supporters' opinions of the Tottenham star.

He stated: "I just love how the goalposts have shifted from ‘one season wonder Harry’ to ‘won’t go down as one of the greatest’.

“There is a big yard stick between those two things. The facts are, if he doesn’t get injured, he will go down as the all-time record goalscorer for England.

“He will also go down as the Premier League record goalscorer. He’s the first player to captain England to a cup final since 1966.

“It’s about time he was given some credit, I can’t believe I’m saying this. Those who still question Harry Kane, do you understand football?

“Harry Kane will go on and break those records and I just hope he can get over the line and win a significant trophy with Tottenham.”

The Verdict: One of the greatest...

In our opinion, Kane should undoubtedly be considered one of England's greatest ever strikers.

Aside from his brilliant record in front of goal, which has also seen him net 254 times for Tottenham, the Premier League icon has also excelled at international tournaments, something that others have failed to do in the past.

Clinching the Golden Boot at Russia's 2018 World Cup, Kane also finished Euro 2020 with four goals in seven matches en route to the final at Wembley.
