Tottenham Hotspur have been backed to sign Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie by Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson.

The Lowdown: Tottenham target midfielder

According to a report from CalcioMercato, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte may consider tabling an offer to bring the USA international to Hotspur Way as early as January, having tested the ground in recent months.

However, the potential move has been called into question due to recent developments concerning managing director Fabio Paratici, who may find it hard to negotiate with Federico Cherubini after the Juventus sporting director accused him of "drugging the market" by shelling out too much on players during his stint in Turin.

The Latest: Robinson's comments

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson, now a pundit on Sky Sports and Astro TV, said:

“Weston McKennie is a player I like. He is someone who would fit Conte’s style of play. He has the right attitude and physical attributes.

“I was very impressed with him in the World Cup. Spurs are no longer looking for cheap buys. They are looking for top players who are going to make a major impression on the team.”

The Verdict: Sign him up

The American exhibited his talents in Qatar during the World Cup, with journalist Kyle Bonn labelling him "sensational" for his display against England, a performance that highlighted his passing abilities, boasting a 90% accuracy, the highest of any USA starter, while also completing one key pass.

Not only that, but the 24-year-old is a positive player, always trying to advance his side further up the field, encapsulated by an average of 4.01 progressive passes recorded per 90 minutes over the past year, placing him in the 92nd percentile compared to his positional peers.

With that in mind, Paratici should look to put his differences with his opposite number aside, and secure the services of the maestro in January, especially considering Juventus are apparently looking to sell him, as per CalcioMercato.
