Tottenham ‘looking’ at Ange Postecoglou as potential Conte replacement

Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be looking at Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as a potential replacement for Antonio Conte.
The Lowdown: Conte quitting?
The Italian’s future at Spurs is now a dubious proposition at best with reports in the last 24 hours suggesting he is very much expected to be sacked.
Conte came to north London in 2021, succeeding former boss Nuno Espirito Santo, and his appointment was greeted with much anticipation – especially considering his decorated record in management.
The 51-year-old guided Spurs to a top four Premier League finish in his first season, but this year, Conte has arguably failed to build upon that strong end to the 2021/2022 campaign.
There have been calls for the ex-Chelsea boss to leave after his astonishing post-match rant last weekend, where he took aim at both the Spurs squad and Lilywhites board.
The Latest: Spurs ‘looking’ at Ange…
According to journalist Gary Jacob, speaking on beIN SPORTS, Hoops manager Ange is among the coaches currently being looked at by Spurs – even if he doesn’t fall into the category of a young and upcoming manager.
He explained:
“Spurs are already looking at managers, they’re looking at very young, up and coming managers,” he said.
“Perhaps the exception being Ange at Celtic, who’s slightly older. All the managers they’re looking at are coaches and it seems to kind of accept that this time it’s going to be a coach, rather than what they’ve tried before with Jose [Mourinho] and Conte as winners. That’s not worked.
“I think they’re going to go back to a slight reset of going back to the model they had in the past with people like Martin Jol and Pochettino and slowly build with a coach.”
The Verdict: Good candidate?
The Australian has almost single-handedly re-invigorated Celtic after arch rivals Rangers won the SPFL title in 2021.
Since that campaign, Ange helped the Scottish football giants to clinch back a league title last season and is well on course to seize a second-successive domestic crown.
Celtic are currently dominating north of the border and the 57-year-old’s ‘beautiful football’ has earned many plaudits from dazzled on-lookers like Owen Hargreaves.
Ange, who deploys an attacking 4-3-3 system, has also been called a ‘really likeable‘ manager by former Spurs defender Alan Hutton.
Adding fuel to the fire, Celtic’s boss just so happens to share the same agency as Tottenham stars Son Heung-min and Richarlison.
Even though there is an argument to made Ange hasn’t been tested in an elite division like the English top flight, his stock keeps rising, and he could well be a dark horse contender.
