Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly held talks with the representatives of Barcelona forward Memphis Depay.

The Lowdown: Spurs planning for January...

Antonio Conte's side endured a mixed last five Premier League games before the start of this World Cup, losing three out of five whilst conceding 11 goals.

Spurs are chasing Champions League qualification for the 2022/2023 season with Conte's current deal also set to expire next year as things stand.

It is the job of sporting director Fabio Paratici and chairman Daniel Levy to convince the Italian he will be backed if he chooses to remain in north London, so the club may need to showcase that.

The Latest: Depay contact made...

As per a new report, it appears the Lilywhites are in the mix to sign Depay, who could leave Catalonia.

Spurs, alongside Arsenal, Newcastle, West Ham and Man United, have all made contact to sign the former Lyon star.

90min claim the north Londoners have held talks with the player's representatives over a move but it's Roma, Jose Mourinho's current side, who are the most advanced.

Barca, however, are reluctant to let Depay leave without some financial benefit due to their problems off the field.

The Verdict: Make the move?

The versatile forward finished 2021/22 as one of Barca's top-rated players and even scored their most goals in La Liga with 12 despite not always being first-choice, backing that he could be of use to Conte (WhoScored).

Having started just two league matches this season, it's clear the £159,000-per-week star can still do a job for Spurs if they manage to sign him either in the summer or mid-season.

The Dutchman is out of contract in 2023 so this could hand Spurs a powerful footing in negotiations.
