Tottenham and sporting director Fabio Paratici by extension have sent club officials to run the rule over Lecce star Morten Hjulmand, and he could be a summer bargain.

The Lowdown: Spurs make transfer plans...

The summer of 2023 looks set to be one of the busiest windows in recent memory for Spurs.

Reports have highly suggested that manager Antonio Conte could be on his way out at the end of this 2022/2023 Premier League season.

The Italian is out of contract later this year, and despite chairman Daniel Levy having the option to extend his stay, it is currently unlikely.

Spurs have been linked with a plethora of new managers as Paratici and co draw up a shortlist, with Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi, Luis Enrique, Thomas Tuchel, Marco Silva and Thomas Frank all in contention.

On top of this, the north Londoners have to consider Harry Kane's contract situation and get to work on planning summer transfer targets.

A centre-back is thought to be a major priority at Tottenham with news now coming to light on a previously linked target in Hjulmand.

The Latest: Paratici sends Spurs officials...

According to Calciomercato, Spurs - and Paratici by extension - have sent club officials to run the rule over the 23-year-old - coming to 'see' him in action many times.

Tottenham are named as one of the clubs who have 'set their sights' on Hjulmand with Roma, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund also taking an interest.

In a further incentive for Spurs, this report claims the in-form Dane could come at a bargain price as Lecce are set to demand just £13 million.

The Verdict: Brilliant player...

Hjulmand is highly, highly rated in some quarters and is currently emerging as one of Serie A's most exciting prospects.

The defensive midfielder is a standout for Lecce in terms of stats - making more successful tackles and interceptions per 90 than any of his teammates in Italy's top flight (WhoScored).

Hjulmand can also contribute going forward, having registered four assists this season and Lecce's third-highest number of key passes per 90 in the final third (WhoScored).

To add fuel to the fire, he is their best-performing player overall - surely making £13m seem like a real steal.

Members of the media have heaped praise on Hjulmand as a real one to watch this year with TLN TV Digital reporter and Italian football expert Steven Moore stating:

"Looking for a regista who is also able to defend? Look no further than Lecce's Morten Hjulmand. At 23, he is one of the league’s rising stars and most underrated players."
