Tottenham are now 'preparing for an agreement to be reached' over the signing of Sporting  CP defender Pedro Porro, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Spurs make bid...

The Lilywhites, guided by sporting director Fabio Paratici, made an opening bid of guaranteed money plus one player in an attempt to sign the 23-year-old earlier this week.

Sporting, however, rebuffed Tottenham's advances and insisted that Porro can only leave for his €45 million (£39m) release clause.

Since then, reports have suggested that the north Londoners are set to resume negotiations over Porro's signing as manager Antonio Conte attempts to upgrade his wing-back options.

Tottenham are currently five points of Newcastle United in the race for a top four Premier League finish and this January window represents a real opportunity to strengthen their bid.

The Latest: Tottenham 'preparing' for Porro agreement...

The Times have shared a promising update on Spurs' chase to sign Porro this month.

They claim, whilst Sporting have reiterated their release clause stance, Spurs are now 'optimistic' they can cover the majority of that cost and pay the rest through variables/instalments.

As a result, it is believed both the Portuguese side and Tottenham are 'preparing for an agreement to be reached' for the player.

The Verdict: Great news...

Porro comes as a potential coup for Spurs so this update is a very promising one.

His numbers seriously back the fact he can come in and gift manager Conte a serious attacking threat with the Spaniard is currently standing out as Sporting's best-assist maker with five in 13 appearances.

Porro, according to WhoScored, also ranks in Sporting’s top two for shots at goal and key passes made per 90 in the Portuguese first division.

Only young, he would tick the boxes of being both a long term signing for Spurs and someone who can instantly hand Conte an upgrade.

His numbers and reputation highlight a player worth chasing with members of the media calling him 'perfect' for Spurs and 'sensational' at full-back.
