As per Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold, Tottenham's relationship with Ajax means Andre Onana “will have been watched closely”.

With Hugo Lloris enduring a difficult campaign this year – the disastrous game against Brighton when he gifted the Seagulls a goal and simultaneously injured himself really encapsulating that – Spurs could look towards signing a new number one in the summer.

And according to Gold, what with finances set to be restricted due to the current climate, one of the big questions at Spurs will be whether they splash the cash on a goalkeeper instead of elsewhere on the pitch.

One man who Gold says the Lilywhites will have kept tabs on, is Onana. He said: “It's no secret that Spurs keep a close eye on Ajax, respect their philosophy and methods, and have a good relationship with the Dutch outfit, as evidenced by the transfers between the two over recent years.

“Andre Onana, at 24, will have been watched closely and Tottenham fans will know the Cameroon international well as the man Lucas Moura fired that dramatic hat-trick past in the Champions League semi-final second leg last year. With interest from Chelsea and his former club Barcelona, Onana is believed to be worth around £30m.”

Whilst 33 is hardly old in terms of being a goalkeeper, it would certainly make sense for Spurs to start planning for a future without Lloris, particularly with his aforementioned struggles this season.

Onana would be an intriguing choice given that he has built up considerably high-level experience at Ajax, competing in the Champions League on a regular basis.

As Gold points out, the north London side seem to have a fairly good relationship with the four-time European Cup winners, with the likes of Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen making the switch from the Netherlands to England.

Swooping for Onana could turn out to be another shrewd raid for an Ajax player.
