Reliable Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has shared an interesting behind-scenes revelation on summer signing Ivan Perisic.

The Lowdown: Spurs summer business...

The Lilywhites completed seven major signings in total this summer and eight if you count a permanent deal for star defender Cristian Romero.

Spurs, in their attempts to back manager Antonio Conte, sealed moves for Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, Djed Spence, Destiny Udogie and Perisic for a combined total of £153 million.

The latter man has enjoyed a brilliant start to his Lilywhites career overall, attracting praise for some of his showings whilst becoming a Conte mainstay in the Premier League.

He is described by N17 insiders as 'intense' and 'straight-faced' with the Croatia international appearing as an almost no-nonsense leader at the club already.

Perisic is also likened to star midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in terms of 'being so tuned in' and 'focused on the job at hand'.

The Verdict: Asset for Conte...

The 33-year-old appears to have all the right attributes both as a traditional Conte wing-back and personality-wise in a real boost for Spurs over this coming season.

Perisic, a Croatia international veteran, also comes to north London with bags of experience from the most elite stages in football - having clinched three league titles and a Champions League winner's medal (Transfermarkt).

The presence of a seasoned figurehead like the former Inter Milan star will be invaluable to Conte as he seeks to reinstate Spurs as a major force.
