Tottenham: Spurs linked with Marcus Thuram transfer

Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram this summer, according to a report.
The Lowdown: Thuram available
Thuram’s contract is currently set to expire at the end of the season, and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport that he will ‘100%’ choose not to extend his stay, meaning he will be available in the summer.
However, Tottenham will have to fend off stiff competition if they want to sign the forward, given that Manchester United, Newcastle United and Chelsea have all made contact with his agent.
The Latest: Spurs eyeing deal
According to a report from CalcioMercato, Tottenham are one of the Premier League clubs interested in the 25-year-old, although Newcastle are said to be leading the race.
There is now said to be interest in the 6 foot 3 Frenchman from all over Europe, with Inter Milan named as potential suitors, while Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also in the mix.
The Verdict: Get it done?
Hailed as ‘world class’ by Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schafer, the Parma-born marksman has been in fantastic form in the Bundesliga this season, weighing in with double figures for goals and a handful of assists.
Thuram’s goal return places the nine-time France international among the German top flight’s top scorers while he also specialises in dribbling, ranking in the 92nd percentile for successful take-ons per 90 in the past year, averaging 1.55.
That said, Spurs already have Harry Kane available at striker, so it may be difficult to tempt Thuram into a move, as he knows that he would be playing second fiddle to the England captain, who recently became the club’s all-time top scorer.
With Kane said to be doubting his future in north London, Thuram would be a fantastic signing if Tottenham are forced to sell the Englishman this summer, otherwise it is unlikely they will be able to get him, given the level of interest from other top clubs.
