Tottenham Hotspur will '100 per cent' enter the market for a replacement if Bryan Gil leaves before deadline day, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The lowdown: Deal close

This comes as Gil reportedly nears a move back to La Liga outfit Valencia, where the winger spent part of the 2021/22 campaign on loan.

The 21-year-old Spain youth international has struggled to make a desired impact in the Premier League, making just 20 appearances following his arrival from Sevilla.

He has made the first-team bench in all three league fixtures so far, but one well-informed onlooker has shed some further light on the situation and whether or not Spurs will look to add another option to Antonio Conte's ranks...

The latest: '100 per cent'

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Taylor - a journalist for the Daily Express - has claimed that Tottenham will '100 per cent' look to sign another attacker should the 11-cap Under 21 starlet move on.

He said: “100 per cent, I do think that’s the case. I think looking at Spurs’ squad, you do question whether they need it.

“One, Gil wasn’t playing when he was at the club, two, you’ve got Richarlison not getting in ahead of [Dejan] [Kulusevski], then you’ve got Lucas Moura.

“But you know what Conte is like, he wants options, and he doesn’t care if he will annoy people by keeping them on the bench, he’s showing ambition.”

The verdict: Positive signs

Keeping such strength in depth in situ at Hotspur Way can only be viewed in a positive light, particularly as the Lilywhites' squad prepares to embark on UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup ventures along with the rigours of the Premier League.

Linked to the likes of Anthony Gordon and Ruslan Malinovskyi in recent days, it appears as though Fabio Paratici may already have irons in the fire in order to bolster the winger department.

Furthermore, allowing Gil - who was dubbed a ‘very exciting’ player by ESPN editor David Cartlidge - to leave on loan and further his own development whilst Tottenham add a proven elite operator would be another sign of the club moving in the right direction.
