Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has confirmed his team news before the Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest as Cristian Romero will miss out again.
The lowdown: Romero’s injury
Romero picked up an adductor muscle injury in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea a fortnight ago and subsequently missed the victory over Wolves.
However, Conte has seemingly dismissed Romero’s chances of featuring whilst addressing the health of his entire squad…
The latest: ‘Stupid to take a risk’
Speaking during his pre-match press conference (via Football London), the Spurs boss confirmed that the 11-cap ace would not be ready for the clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He said: “Cristian had a little problem during the game against Chelsea in the final part of the game, but it’s a little problem.
“After the game he started to feel a bit of pain in his adductor. We checked him, and honestly the player wanted to give his availability but in this type of situation especially as we have a lot of games to play, it would be stupid to take a risk. For this reason for the game against Wolverhampton, he’s not available.”
The verdict: Big loss
Although Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Clement Lenglet are more than capable of forging a solid defensive combination, Romero’s absence is undoubtedly a huge blow to Tottenham’s chances against an exciting newly-promoted outfit.
Hailed as ‘brilliant’ by Lilywhites favourite and club ambassador Ledley King, Conte is certainly wise not to take any risks with the centre-back and will want him back to full fitness as swiftly as possible.
Meanwhile, there was a positive coming from the pre-match build-up as Conte also confirmed the ‘good news’ that Oliver Skipp would return to team training next week.
