Tottenham Hotspur have made contact to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya this summer, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Three-horse race

The Spaniard has been a standout performer under Thomas Frank since making the jump up to the Premier League, with his performances this season having caught the eye of multiple potential suitors.

The Lilywhites are one of the clubs to have recently been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old, alongside top-right rivals Manchester United and Chelsea.

The Bees shot-stopper has now entered the final 18 months of his contract, and Antonio Conte appears keen to bring him across the capital.

The Latest: Tottenham make contact

According to Spanish outlet Relevo (via CaughtOffside), Spurs have actually ‘already made contact’ with Raya’s representatives regarding a potential switch this summer.

Amid interest from the trio of name-checked suitors, the 6 foot star has ‘refused’ to extend his current deal, presumably in the hope of securing a mega move to one of those clubs at the end of the season.

The Verdict: Lloris successor?

Raya has been praised for being ‘next level’ with his feet by reporter Dan Bardell, and he would be an ideal successor to Hugo Lloris, whose own distribution has often been criticised.

Brentford’s star has kept seven clean sheets this season and is averaging 10.8 long balls per league game, not to mention the three man-of-the-match awards he has to his name (WhoScored). He also ranks higher in all four of the major ball-playing and passing metrics than Lloris.

The Spurs captain’s deal is set to expire next June with reports suggesting that the hierarchy are already on the hunt to find his long-term replacement, which could well prove to be Raya.
