TalkSport's Simon Jordan has been left baffled by Tottenham Hotspur's decision to sign Djed Spence following his reported impending loan move to Rennes.
The Lowdown: Medical completed
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Spence has completed a medical with the Ligue 1 side. The deal will be a loan with no option or obligation to buy written into the deal.
The right-back only joined Spurs last summer for a reported fee of around £20m from Championship outfit Middlesbrough.
At the time of writing, Antonio Conte's side appear to be 'close' to landing Sporting right-back Pedro Porro on an initial loan with an obligation to buy, as reported by Sky Sports.
The Latest: Jordan baffled by Spurs
Jordan was left confused by Spurs' decision to sign Spence in the first place when speaking to TalkSport, stating his belief that it was a waste of money if they weren't going to play the 22-year-old.
He stated: "I don't understand the dynamic of that [summer] transfer. I know that Gareth Bale took a while to settle into Tottenham Hotspur and was never played by Harry Redknapp until the vision sort of arrived.
"But this boy was fought for - he could have gone to Nottingham Forest; he could've stayed where he was actually successful. He's gone to Spurs, and I don't know what the purpose of that £13-14m transfer currently was."

The Verdict: Game time for Spence
We believe that from Spence's perspective, a loan move will be a great opportunity for him to get game time and consistent minutes out in France, but it makes you question why Tottenham even signed him.
Spurs have paid Boro £20m for a player who barely features for them, and in our view, that's just throwing away money that could've gone elsewhere.
When he was on loan at Nottingham Forest, Spence was often the recipient of a lot of praise. Former Leicester City man Wes Morgan described the right-back as 'outstanding' and labelled him a 'constant threat' in an FA Cup match on the BBC (via Teesside Live) against the Foxes back in February of last year.
The 22-year-old scooped up three different accolades in March 2022 when he was at Forest, claiming the Championship's goal of the month, player of the month and young player of the month awards.
In our view, Spence is a player who certainly has shown over the course of a season that he is a talented full-back, so this loan move to Rennes is a big opportunity to showcase that and prove to Spurs he's worthy of being a future starter for them in the near future.
