Tottenham Hotspur picked up a great result last weekend against Manchester City and they now face another hard test as they take on Chelsea. Journalist Alasdair Gold has reported that summer signing Joe Rodon will start in the game.

Gold's update on Rodon

Gold tweeted: "Big day for Joe Rodon. He's been really impressing Mourinho in training and he's going to get his chance today at Stamford Bridge. Biggest compliment to him was that when he came on against Manchester City Spurs' defensive levels didn't drop at all. Massive test again today."

This is the defender's chance to impress

This update does make sense with the news surrounding Toby Alderweireld and his injury status. Rodon came on to replace the Belgian last week which highlights that Mourinho trusts the 23-year-old. The Welshman will now have to repay the favour by putting in a solid performance in what will be his first Premier League start for the club.

Rodon showed his quality in the Championship with Swansea last season as he managed, on average, 5.4 clearances, one tackle, and 1.6 interceptions per game (WhoScored).

His teammate Gareth Bale clearly rates him highly as he said: "Joe's been fantastic since he first came into the squad. We all regard him as a great centre-half and we think he’s going to go on to do amazing things. Signing for Tottenham was a step in the right direction for him and one that I feel like he was ready for."

The club clearly believes he can produce this quality in the Premier League and facing Chelsea's potent attacking line-up will be a real test to show how well the summer signing has adapted to life in north London.
