Writing on Twitter, reliable Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold has shared news surrounding a fresh ‘injury problem‘ for Steven Bergwijn as Jose Mourinho confirms the attacker’s fitness troubles – going on to claim he is ‘suffering‘.
Bergwijn played on the right hand-side during Tottenham’s resounding 3-0 home victory at home to Leeds United on Saturday, and whilst he proved effective, the Dutchman also missed some opportunities to get on the scoresheet.
Jose Mourinho confirms Bergwijn trouble
As pointed out in a press conference by one media member, Bergwijn perhaps needs to start being more prolific in front of goal when presented with golden chances, a claim which prompted Mourinho to immediately address that concern whilst explaining the player’s current troubles.
The 23-year-old was holding his adductor and groin in the final ten minutes of their Leeds encounter, according to Mourinho, and the Portuguese boss has now confirmed his latest fitness trouble.
“He’s accumulating also physical problems,” explained the Spurs boss.
“I don’t know if you could see, but even in the last 10 minutes, he was touching his groin, he was touching his adductor.
“He’s having problems that are stopping him now and again from training properly and at high intensity, so he’s suffering a little bit.
“But, of course, he gives very good things to the team. I believe the goals will arrive if his condition improves.”
Transfer Tavern take
As summer signing Gareth Bale continues his recovery, news that Bergwijn is currently suffering with physical issues could come as bad news for Tottenham.
If the winger succumbs and is forced into an absence, Lucas Moura could be Mourinho’s only option on that right hand side – with the manager hoping that he’ll have plenty of options still available for January.
