The Lowdown: Making way for newcomers
It’s expected to be a busy transfer window for the Italian manager, who will be looking to continue to rebuild his squad in the hopes of achieving that all-important top four Champions League place next season, and potentially even push to challenge the title front-runners.
In order to have the required funds available, Paratici will likely have to ensure that a large number of players depart the Lilywhites at the end of the campaign, whether this be on loan or on a permanent deal to make space for any new signings.
Gold, writing for Football London, believes Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Ceslo are both likely to leave, but has now shared news on a third candidate…
The Latest: Possible exit?
When asked to name who he thinks might leave the north London club in the coming months, Gold told football.london: “Emerson Royal could well head back to Spain this summer if it’s decided that he just cannot fit the wing-back role Conte requires.”
The Brazilian full-back has indeed been linked with an exit earlier this year, with Atletico Madrid reportedly keen.
Will Tottenham finish in the top 4 this season?
The Verdict: Lack of minutes
The Brazilian has admitted that he’s experienced problems in training due to the language barrier between himself and the coaching staff, even under former manager Nuno Espirito Santo, which hasn’t at all aided his progress at the club.
And, despite the 23-year-old’s current contract at Spurs not expiring until 2026, Royal has only made 21 starts in the top-flight this season and has failed to deliver, with Matt Doherty instead being favoured by the Italian boss.
If the right-back isn’t part of Conte’s plans in the long-term, then it wouldn’t come as any shock to see him look for a move elsewhere come the end of May in the search for some much-needed game time, banking a fee to be reinvested into the Spurs squad in the process.
