Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte will not be discussing the possibility of signing a new contract at the north London club.

The Lowdown: Conte's future at Spurs

So far this season, the Italian has seen his side top their group in the Champions League by beating Marseille 2-1 last week, along with keeping the club in the top four of the Premier League table for the entire season so far.

Having been in charge of the Lilywhites for just over a year now, it was reported at the end of last month that Spurs had opened talks with the 53-year-old over the possibility of him putting pen to paper on a new deal.

However, it appears that claims of Conte being in discussions with the club over a new contract have been played down.

The Latest: Conte contract talks doubted

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Bridge advised Tottenham supporters not to hold their breath when it comes to contract talks between club and manager.

He stated: "I think sometimes fans need to maybe take a little step back. I understand the criticism with the style of football, but playing every three days isn’t really helping either. It’s a massive, massive result [against Marseille].

"I don’t think Antonio Conte will be holding talks any time soon about his contract. However, it is just a really good, important step that this club is still a Champions League side heading into the new year."

The Verdict: A big priority for Spurs

With the Lilywhites into the round of 16 for the Champions League and well in the hunt to finish in the top four of the Premier League again, it's safe to say that Conte has been a vital figure for Spurs since his arrival in N17 last November.

Having taken charge of 56 games across all competitions with Tottenham, the former Chelsea and Inter Milan coach has won 32, drawn nine and lost 15 along the way.

Regardless of whether or not the two parties are in talks at this moment in time, securing the 53-year-old's signature before his current contract expires at the end of the season should definitely be one of the top priorities for the club's hierarchy.
