Tottenham Hotspur: Antonio Conte without Ryan Sessegnon for Everton clash

Tottenham Hotspur: Antonio Conte without Ryan Sessegnon for Everton clash -Tottenham Hotspur News

As per The Guardian, new Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte will be without Ryan Sessegnon for their trip to Everton today.

The Lowdown: Sessegnon sidelined…

The 21-year-old, who has never really had a consistent run in the first team since his arrival from Fulham in 2019, is one of the players who could move to pastures new in January.

Can you name all of these forgotten Spurs wonderkids? This guy was once called 'the next Didier Drogba'...

Former Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo was said to be a ‘big fan‘ of the defender and began playing him shortly after arriving at N17, starting the youngster in two Europa Conference League matches earlier this season.

However, amid Spurs’ torrid September international break, the youngster sustained a knock playing for the Three Lions’ under-21 side which has rendered him unavailable for selection ever since.

Sharing some team news, it appears that new Spurs boss Conte still won’t have the option of picking him today.

The Latest: Sessegnon remains out for Conte…

Arguably wanting to ignite his Tottenham career under Conte two years after signing from Craven Cottage, Sessegnon must wait to do so under the third Lilywhites boss to take charge since his arrival.

As per The Guardian’s match preview, the English defender is out for today’s clash against Everton at Goodison Park, with a lack of match fitness cited as the reason for his absence.

The Verdict: Interesting months ahead…

It remains to be seen whether the Spurs starlet can finally kickstart under Conte and display his very best form, like we saw at Fulham, but he could theoretically be of use to the Italian in his favoured three-at-the-back formation.

Sessegnon could be a useful alternative and rotation option to Sergio Reguilon as a left wing-back, with another ex-Spurs manager in Jose Mourinho  once holding high praise for the 21-year-old and comparing him to Ashley Cole.

Pundit Noel Whelan also lauded him as an ‘outstanding’ young talent with the potential to become a ‘£50 million player in the making’ (Football Insider), leaving little wonder why Alasdair Gold claimed earlier this year that Spurs still have ‘high hopes‘ for him.

He shone on loan at Hoffenheim last season and it’s clear that he could still have a future at Tottenham, with his poor fitness record being the only obstacle at this point.

When Sessegnon is back and available, it will be interesting to see if Conte is the man to finally nurture him into a top Spurs talent.
