Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs chasing Axel Disasi - Premier League News

Tottenham Hotspur are chasing AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi, but they will face competition for his signature, according to a new report.

The Lowdown: Tottenham’s Disasi interest

Tottenham were said to be interested in signing Disasi back in the summer, as reported by Marca, with the Spanish publication detailing that the club had retained an interest for over two years.

Clement Lenglet was instead brought in to bolster the centre-back area, but Spurs have struggled defensively so far this season, conceding in their 10 games prior to the 4-0 victory against Crystal Palace last time out, and Antonio Conte could now reignite his interest in the Frenchman.

The Latest: Spurs still chasing

According to a new report from the Daily Mail, Spurs are chasing Disasi, with West Ham United and Manchester United also named as interested parties.

However, it appears as though the Red Devils are at the most advanced stage, as negotiations between them and Monaco have now taken place, so Conte may have to move swiftly if he wants to win the race for his long-term target.

The Verdict: Get it done?

The 6 foot 2 powerhouse is clearly thought of in very high regard by scout Jacek Kulig, as he has previously lauded him as being ‘dominant’, while also claiming that he is a similar type of player to Virgil van Dijk.

Given Tottenham’s defensive issues this season, it is evident that they need new reinforcements at the back, with club expert John Wenham recently lambasting Lenglet, calling him a ‘cheap option’, and Disasi would be a clear upgrade on his compatriot.

How much did Spurs pay to sign future legend and fan favourite David Ginola?

An average of 2.74 interceptions per 90 over the past year is indicative of the defensive acumen possessed by the former Reims man, with Lenglet only recording a figure of 1.3 per 90 in the same timeframe, while also averaging fewer blocks, clearances and aerials won.

Even though his side kept a clean sheet in their most recent match, Conte must bring in defensive reinforcements this month, and signing the Monaco star would be a very astute piece of business.
