Jamie O'Hara has slammed Antonio Conte for starting Japhet Tanganga in Tottenham Hotspur's latest defeats.

The Lowdown: Spurs continue to be inconsistent

Tottenham's defeat this weekend almost sums up where they are as a club, as just the week prior, they were able to dismantle the champions in an impressive victory, displaying their stark inconsistency at present.

Spurs were put to the sword by a Leicester City side who were still looking over their shoulders prior to kick-off on Saturday, and that will not have been a good thing for Conte to see on his return to the touchline.

Their win at home to Manchester City saw Cristian Romero handed his marching orders, which saw him suspended for the clash and allowed Tanganga to start at the King Power Stadium, much to O'Hara's dismay.

The Latest: Tanganga comes in for criticism

O'Harar was fuming with Conte on TalkSport after he started Tanganga in place of Romero, which he believes was an outrageous decision from the Italian.

He said: "There's no point us turning up if Romero's [not] playing and we want to play three at the back. Tanganga playing on the right side of a three is unbelievable from Conte. It's absolutely outrageous. How he doesn't look at that and go, 'I can't play this man here'..."

The Verdict: Romero a major miss for Spurs

Romero is very much a key cog in Spurs' side, so to lose so heavily when he was absent last weekend may not have been much of a surprise to many, as the defender boasts the third-best points-per-match ratio out of outfield Tottenham players to have started a league game (as per FBref).

However, Tottenham simply can't be relying on one defender to shore up their entire backline, and players such as Tanganga have to be good enough to be able to step up to the challenge when called upon.

The fact that O'Hara doesn't believe Tanganga is good enough to be part of a back three only goes to emphasise Conte's point about needing more transfer windows to get the squad right to challenge for the top honours, though it seems harsh to criticise the Italian when his hands were somewhat tied when it came to his team selection at the weekend.
