Writing on social media, Tottenham Hotspur have announced and confirmed a new deal for young attacker Dilan Markanday – who Lilywhites fans may remember as a player who scored in the first ever game played at their new ground during a 3-1 victory against Southampton Under-18s (Spurs official).
Since that moment of history, Markanday has gone on to feature for the Lilywhites’ U23s squad – making nine appearances and scoring one goal from out wide in the Premier League 2 division so far this season (Transfermarkt).
Tottenham confirm new contract
The 19-year-old attacker has now justified a new deal in north London as he puts pen to paper on a professional extension which runs until 2022.
Writing ‘we are delighted to announce‘ on Twitter, Daniel Levy’s call to secure Markanday with a fresh contract has now been confirmed by the club as supporters eagerly wait other potential new deals for star attackers Son Heung-min and Harry Kane (Fabrizio Romano).
Football and ECB cricket agent Baljit Rihal, taking to social media, hailed Spurs’ offer for the talent as ‘great news‘ – especially for Asians in football, with Markanday arguably having the potential to eventually play his way into Jose Mourinho’s first team.
Reliable Lilywhites correspondent Alasdair Gold certainly believes he can cut it, with the journalist once likening him to first teamer Lucas Moura and claiming that he ‘evokes memories’ of former Spurs prodigy, Marcus Edwards (football.london).
Now that the club have tied him down, this could certainly come as ‘great news’ – especially given Spurs may not want to lose another prodigy like Edwards in the future.
Time will tell whether Markanday can work his way into Mourinho’s plans, but judging by his credentials, you wouldn’t rule it out.
