According to sources from Football Insider, chairman Daniel Levy is plotting a new deal for defender Serge Aurier following his resurgence into the first team at Tottenham – with the Ivorian looking set to join the likes of Son Heung-min and Hugo Lloris in signing a new contract as talks are rumoured.
Aurier, who has worked his way back to full form and into Jose Mourinho’s plans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, could now be offered a new contract alongside Son and Lloris after Levy’s ‘U-turn’.
Aurier offered new deal
The 66-cap defender was at the centre of talks linking him with a move away over the summer as Football Insider reported, with Spurs apparently accepting a bid from Spartak Moscow, only for Aurier to turn down the move.
Indeed, a move to the Russian Premier League did not appeal to him, and it appears that the decision to stay and battle for his place in north London has paid off.
As a result, Levy is reportedly ready to offer a contract extension as his current deal expires in 2022 – with the tables turning dramatically since the summer window.
Transfer Tavern take
The ‘beast‘ looks set to be handed a lucrative offer, potentially music to the ears of Spurs supporters who should be mightily impressed with how he’s played across the new campaign.
Whether or not it is announced in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but if Aurier carries on performing at a consistent level, it could pay dividends for Spurs to tie him down.
