According to a report by The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur and, by extension, chairman Daniel Levy will now seek talks with Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

The Lowdown: Spurs suffer blow...

In recent days, Spurs suffered a big blow in their pursuit of a new manager, with talks breaking down over the appointment of Antonio Conte.

The Italian was targeted after Paris-Saint Germain made their stance on Mauricio Pochettino leaving for Spurs abundantly clear, with the Ligue 1 giants looking set to dig their heels in.

Tottenham are now running out of credible options for the post, and Ten Hag has been touted as another manager who could hold talks with the club.

The Latest: Spurs will seek ten Hag talks...

As explained by The Mirror, Tottenham will now seek further talks with Ajax boss Ten Hag and see if a deal can be done to appoint him this month.

The 51-year-old is back in the frame after Spurs' failed discussions with Conte and any hope of getting Pochettino appears to be 'all but dead'.

Ajax triggered a contract extension clause in Ten Hag's deal at the Johan Cruyff Arena which also appeared to have ruled him out of the running. However, he is now back in contention, and previous reports have suggested that Spurs could still land him regardless of the extension.

The Verdict: Perfect and most likely candidate...

As moves for Pochettino and Conte appear doomed, Ten Hag is now arguably the only option who fits into what Spurs want for their next manager.

Lauded as 'remarkable' by former Netherlands international Pierre van Hooijdonk (TV station NOS via Planet Football), Ten Hag's style of play has also been described as having a flavour of 'Cruyffian influence' (The Independent via Planet Football).

As well as this, the Dutchman has previously heralded Spurs, most notably from their Champions League semi-final clash against his Ajax side in 2019. Speaking to the press (via FotMob), he called the Lilywhites 'amazing' as they geared up to clash on Europe's biggest stage.

We believe he might just be the man to save Tottenham if they cannot get Pochettino through the door.
