According to Goal, Tottenham have made an official offer for Gerson, but this has been rejected by Flamengo.

Last week, the outlet reported Jose Mourinho admires the Brazilian and Spurs have been scouting him since December.

A source has now told Raisa Simplico that the Lilywhites have launched a bid for Gerson.

However, the football reporter has revealed Flamengo believe the €18 million offer, which equates to £16m, is "very low" and Daniel Levy will need to splash the cash if he is to prise the midfielder away from the Copa Libertadores champions.

Ever since Gerson returned to his homeland from a spell in Italy, he has played in 41 games for the Scarlet and Blacks, scoring 4 goals and creating 4 assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

He made 27 appearances for Flamengo last year, scoring 2 goals, creating 3 assists, making 1.5 tackles per game and completing 1.3 dribbles on average via WhoScored.

The 23-year-old won 10 caps for Brazil's U-20 youth team but is yet to make an appearance for the senior squad. He is currently valued at £9.9m via Transfermarkt but it appears the Mengao are holding out for a bigger fee.

Simplico reports he has already made it clear he wants to stay at the Maracana Stadium, at least for one more season, which could be bad news for Mourinho.

As it stands, it is difficult to imagine Gerson will move to north London in the summer, due to the current economic climate surrounding the ongoing pandemic.

The Portuguese has previously confirmed the Lilywhites will not be spending "rivers of money" in the transfer market.

Therefore, the Brazilian side's valuation may have priced Mourinho out of a move, and he could turn his attentions elsewhere instead.

Indeed, he is well aware he will have to rely upon loan deals and signing free agents, and Gerson's price tag may be too expensive.
