Speaking to Football Insider, pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has tipped Spurs for a major blow as he claims Harry Winks will be ‘pushing’ for a January exit – despite manager Jose Mourinho recently saying that he wishes to keep hold of him.
Winks, alongside teammate and fellow England international Dele Alli, has been on the fringes of Mourinho’s plans at Spurs this season – with the Portuguese seemingly preferring Moussa Sissoko and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in front of the back four.
Winks ‘pushing’ for January exit
Described as the ‘perfect‘ midfielder by Mauricio Pochettino, Winks could well be considering his options according to Agbonlahor – even regardless of Mourinho’s stance as he aims to keep hold of the homegrown ace.
Given the plethora of injury problems suffered across the Premier League, it would take just a couple of first team absentees for Spurs to require Winks back in the side – with the prospect of losing him in January potentially a major blow as the season wears on.
Speaking to Football Insider, the talkSPORT pundit claims he will be ‘angry’ and not happy with his role so far as a bit-part Europa League player.
“When I was at Aston Villa we were in the UEFA Cup and no one wanted to be a UEFA Cup player,” explained Agbonalhor.
“That’s where players lose their heads and a lot of the Spurs players will. Harry Winks doesn’t want to be a Europa League player. You’d rather play Premier League and not play any games in the Europa League, no offence to the competition.
“That’s what Harry Winks showed, he showed he’s angry and I’m sure he’ll be pushing for a move.”
Transfer Tavern take
Whether or not he pushes for a January exit remains to be seen, but given the long fixture schedule ahead, the last thing Spurs would want is to lose a key back up option.
