Tottenham appointing Thomas Tuchel could convince Harry Kane to stay

Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy believes appointing Thomas Tuchel could help Tottenham Hotspur persuade Harry Kane to stay at the club for the long term.
The Lowdown: Spurs have a big managerial decision to make
Despite longstanding interest from Manchester United, it recently emerged via Sky Sports that Tottenham are unwilling to sell Kane this summer, no matter whether they finish inside the top four.
Reddy has also admitted that Kane does not want to be regarded as one of the best strikers to have never won anything and purely remembered for breaking records, as at the end of the day, trophies are what players get judged by.
While Kane will be desperate for success – something that doesn’t appear forthcoming at Spurs – appointing a proven winner in the form of Tuchel could be the key to showing Kane Tottenham mean business moving forward.
The Latest: Tuchel on Tottenham’s radar
While a lot of the talk has been about Mauricio Pochettino replacing Antonio Conte at Tottenham, Reddy stated on Sky Sports that Tuchel could be someone that keeps Kane happy.
She said: “If Mauricio Pochettino returns to the club – which is what a lot of players and staff at Spurs and the support base would like – he could convince Kane to extend.
“I’m also told that if they show ambition with a hire like Thomas Tuchel, he could be minded to stay as well. However, at 29, he doesn’t want to be the face of a rebuild or another project – he doesn’t have much time left to play.”
The Verdict: Kane must be selfish in his decision
While Reddy has spoken about how much Kane loves Spurs and that winning something with them would mean a lot more than doing it in a different kit, after another season of no silverware, that looks to be a bit of a longshot.
Tottenham have not won anything since lifting the League Cup back in 2008, so the chance of them winning anything during Kane’s career is looking more and more unlikely with every passing season, no matter who the manager is.
Therefore, Kane may already be starting to think about the first big move in his career – which may not come until next summer as a free agent – because if they can’t win anything under a coach such as Pochettino or Tuchel, all hope would surely be lost for Spurs in terms of keeping Kane and they may well wave goodbye to their record goalscorer for nothing.
