Speaking to ESPN, an inside source close to club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele has shed light on the Frenchman after his ‘big-money move to Tottenham – going on to claim that he faced ‘massive’ pressure and had to deal with ‘big changes very quickly’.
Ndombele, who has been rejuvenated under manager Jose Mourinho this campaign, with the pair enjoying an increasingly good relationship despite it still not being ‘perfect’, looks to be taking to life in the Premier League over a year after his club record move from Lyon in the summer of 2019.
Inside source drops Ndombele revelation
The £53.8 million acquisition was a heavy investment by chairman Daniel Levy but one that now looks to be paying dividends, with the 23-year-old putting in a string of fantastic performances after being largely left out by Mourinho over 2019/2020.
Over the summer, reports from France pointed towards a behind the scenes fall out between both Ndombele and the Spurs boss, but luckily for the Lilywhites, they appear to be working together in harmony as both men have played a huge part in guiding Tottenham to the Premier League summit.
Now, speaking to ESPN, a source close to the attacker has revealed why Ndombele potentially faltered in his first season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – going on to say he faced ‘massive’ pressure.
“He had to mature. Don’t forget that his rise to the top has been extraordinarily rapid,” the source explained to ESPN.
“He had one season in Ligue 1 at Amiens, then two at Lyon, a big money move to Tottenham, a change of manager after four months, a new league, a new country and a new language.
“He has had to deal with big changes very quickly, massive expectations and it was all new to him at a young age.”
Transfer Tavern take
Taking all this into account, it’s safe to say Ndombele has had to deal with a lot since his move to north London – but now it could all be behind him as he carries on to shine for Spurs as a crucial asset.
Indeed, arguably, the starlet is just as crucial to Tottenham as the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – with Lilywhites certainly hoping he will continue to dazzle and potentially help lead his side to glory.
