According to a report from Football Insider, 2019 Spurs signing and rejuvenated star Jack Clarke looked ‘withdrawn’ and ‘out of shape’ after sealing a move to Tottenham and returning on loan to Leeds United – but now the talent is ‘really impressing Mourinho‘.
Clarke, who put pen to paper on a deal last summer which could rise to £13.5 million with add-ons, with the initial fee being around £9.5 million (Football Insider), struggled on two separate Championship loan spells last season after sealing a move to Spurs.
Indeed, the 19-year-old barely got a look in upon his return to Leeds and struggled with similar circumstances at QPR during the second half of the campaign.
Shedding light on the past situation, a Whites source has told Football Insider that the winger looked ‘withdrawn’ and ‘out of shape’ upon returning for preseason with the club after completing a deal to join Tottenham.
Since then, Clarke has been kept at Hotspur Way to learn from the likes of Gareth Bale – with the teenager making his first outing for the club in a Europa League win over LASK last week.
Reliable Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold has also claimed that Clarke is ‘really impressing Mourinho‘ behind the scenes – with his redemption after a dreary last campaign coming full circle.
Transfer Tavern take
After Daniel Levy invested close to an initial eight figure fee to bring him to north London, it’s clear that the club see plenty of potential and want to nurture a future talent.
Choosing to keep him alongside the likes of Bale and other Lilywhites stars could be a smart move, with manager Mourinho and chairman Levy looking to get the very best out of a significant investment.
