According to a report by Telegraph journalist Matt Law, goalkeeper Joe Hart is on standby for Hugo Lloris after a fitness worry for the north London derby emerged – with the shot-stopper unseen in the Premier League for nearly two years.
Indeed, despite making Europa League cameos under Jose Mourinho, Hart has remained unseen in the English top flight with Lloris the first choice keeper for big occasions.
However, as per this update, the Frenchman could be deemed not fit enough to feature after a huge injury concern – with his understudy Hart now looking set to be called upon if Jose Mourinho decides not to start his number one despite naming him in the matchday squad.
Hart could be tipped for late call
The former Man City man, once labelled a ‘phenomenon’ by Lionel Messi, endured a mixed evening against LASK during his last Tottenham outing, keeping Spurs in the contest with some solid saves but being beaten far too easily for the Austrian side’s first two goals.
Now, as per this update, he could be set to feature for Spurs during their biggest game of the season so far against Arsenal – with manager Mourinho potentially hoping he can replicate the kind of form which saw him become a mainstay for City.
Transfer Tavern take
An experienced Premier League title winner and England international, Tottenham could certainly do far worse in terms of back up – but these past few seasons have debatably seen a huge drop in form for Hart.
The ability is there, but Lilywhites could be praying they witness his very best as a nerve-wracking encounter looms this afternoon.
While his place isn’t set in stone, with Lloris in the matchday squad, it remains to be seen whether Mourinho will bring him back so soon after a fitness concern or if he opts to start Hart instead.
