Speaking to Football Insider, ex-Tottenham star Alan Hutton has urged Jose Mourinho to consider playing current outcast Dele Alli amid reports he could be set for a January exit – going on to say he should be featuring ‘week in, week out’.
Alli, who has played just 67 minutes of Premier League action in total, has barely been seen for Spurs this season despite years of being a crucial asset under Mauricio Pochettino – with reports now emerging he could leave in January.
Alli urged to play
Indeed, as per the Daily Mail, Alli may want to seek a loan move in order to garner playing time – especially with Euro 2020 postponed and around the corner next year.
The Englishman is currently out of Gareth Southgate’s plans, and if he continues to be frozen out by Mourinho, that appears unlikely to change – with Hutton urging the Tottenham boss to play Alli or his best option may be to leave.
“It’s looking more like he has to leave, this is a boy I think should be playing week in, week out in the Premier League,” explained Hutton to Football Insider.
“It’s going to be a huge decision, like when we spoke about Harry Winks, he has to pick the right team, he needs to go somewhere where he’s going to play, where he’s going to be loved and he can get back to doing what he does best.”
Transfer Tavern take
Described as a player who has been ‘excellent in training‘, Alli’s best course of action may be to leave – but Mourinho could still utilise the midfielder if given a chance.
The 24-year-old, who last made a Spurs start during their 1-0 defeat to Royal Antwerp in the Europa League, could still resurrect his career – but only time will tell whether Mourinho could let him back into the fold in the north London.
