Speaking after Tottenham Hotspur’s comfortable 4-0 Europa League win over Wolfsberger on Wednesday evening, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho waxed lyrical over youngster Dane Scarlett after his contribution as a late substitute – going on to drop an enticing hint about his involvement next season.
The 16-year-old only came on for the final ten minutes of Spurs’ encounter with the Austrian minnows, but that was more than enough to display his quality and send a message to Mourinho.
Scarlett, replacing Dele Alli after his wonderful contribution to proceedings, provided an assist for summer signing Carlos Vinicius to round off a comfortable night for Spurs as they eased into the Last 16 (BBC).
Jose drops enticing Scarlett hint
Speaking after the match to BT Sport (via talkSPORT), Mourinho heaped praise in the teenager whilst dropping an enticing hint surrounding his involvement for Spurs this season.
“He is a diamond, a kid with incredible potential,” Mourinho told BT.
“He has worked many times with the first team and that gives him a different personality. He is still 16, 17 soon [in March] and I believe next season he will be a first-team squad player because he has a lot of talent.
“He is going to be a fantastic player and I hope everything around him goes well. He is a striker, a number nine, I have been playing him from the sides similar to Marcus Rashford and he is very clever.”
