Speaking to Football Insider, football finance expert Kieran Maguire has praised Tottenham Hotspur after a ‘very smart’ off-field move from the club.
The Lowdown: Spurs reach South Korea broadcast agreement…
As per FCBusiness, Spurs have now reached an agreement with with Sky Sports to show exclusive club content in South Korea.
Indeed, the Korean channel of the broadcasting giant is apparently set to stream ‘interviews’ and ‘features’ directly from behind the scenes at Spurs.
This comes as one of the latest in a long line of tactics to profit out of intense interest from that particular market in Asia, especially considering the cult status of Lilywhites players like Son Heung-min and Spurs women’s star So-hyun Cho.
The Latest: Maguire praises Spurs…
Speaking to Football Insider, finance expert Maguire has praised Spurs for this off-field move whilst claiming that it can be a significant revenue stream for the club.
“It’s a very smart move,” he explained.
“Son, as we know, is the poster boy of South Korean football. He moves the dial like no one else does.
“There is a negligible cost as far as Spurs are concerned and there is an opportunity to generate significant revenue.
“So from a financial point of view, this really is a no brainer. It’s an opportunity they’ve done well to take.”
The Verdict: Shrewd by Levy…
Amid the global pandemic, thinking outside the box to generate any stream of income is arguably imperative, especially after Spurs posted ‘irrecoverable’ losses last year.
This shrewd piece of business could add to chairman Daniel Levy’s growing sources of off-field revenue as he aims to maintain Tottenham’s financial growth in these very challenging times.
