Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan is Tottenham's priority this summer, according to Tuttosport via @thespursweb.

Jose Mourinho has identified Maignan at the top of his shortlist of transfer targets - albeit with a shock twist.

The Italian newspaper reports Spurs are the frontrunners to sign the the uncapped French international, as he has a close relationship with his old coach Nuno Santos, who left the Stade Pierre-Mauroy to team up with the Portuguese in North London.

However, Mourinho plans to make the Frenchman a deputy to Hugo Lloris, rather than immediately promoting him. He intends to gradually phase the club captain out of the starting lineup in the future.

It remains to be seen if Maignan will agree to become a backup, as he is currently the first-choice keeper at Lille.

The 24-year-old has established himself as one of Europe's hottest talents ever since he joined the Mastiffs from Paris Saint-Germain.

He has made 28 appearances in Ligue 1 for Christophe Galtier’s side, conceding on average 1 goal per game, keeping 12 clean sheets, and making 2.1 saves (SofaScore).

In comparison, Lloris has played 12 games in the Premier League this season, letting in over 1 goal a game, saving just 2 clean sheets, and attempting 4.3 saves per game (SofaScore).

Moreover, it is worth pointing out the veteran has received a higher SofaScore rating than his compatriot so far.

Nevertheless, Maignan would surely be a shrewd investment, given his age, as it is unlikely Lloris will be a part of the Lilywhites' long-term plans.

He is currently valued at £15.75m via Transfermarkt, which could prove to be a major obstacle in the summer. Mourinho knows he will be hampered by a severely restricted budget in the transfer market, and he may decide to spend the money elsewhere.
