Speaking in a press conference, Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Matt Doherty will miss the clash with Manchester United this afternoon along with Ben Davies.
Doherty, who picked up a muscle injury on international duty with Republic of Ireland recently, will miss the game this afternoon as he is still not fully recovered from that setback.
Tottenham without Doherty
As well as Doherty, fellow full-back Davies is also confirmed to be missing for Spurs, with Mourinho having just these two injuries to deal with as he aims to clinch an all-important result this afternoon.
“Good news,” the Lilywhites boss explained (via football.london).
“Ben Davies and Matt Doherty are the only players that are not available to play. So they are still injured. Of course getting better. But no more injury news. Everybody available.”
Transfer Tavern take
Tottenham are still in contention to quality for the Champions League but need a strong end to the season, and victory at home to the Red Devils could provide a sturdy platform to carry momentum into the final few games of 2020/21.
While Mourinho appears optimistic over the injury news on Doherty, he is set to be without a player he called ‘impeccable’ for his display against Crystal Palace in recent weeks (tottenhamhotspur.com).
Spurs will most likely continue to play Japhet Tanganga in the right-back position as he did against Newcastle United and Aston Villa, with the 22-year-old impressing, and he is arguably their best option for that role at the moment.
