Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly still interested in signing AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

The Lowdown: Spurs' previous interest in Zaniolo

The north London club have been linked with a move for the Italian in the past, most recently during the previous summer transfer window.

Since Antonio Conte took charge of the Lilywhites just over a year ago, he has not been shy when it comes to signing players from Serie A such as Ivan Perisic, Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur. Now though, it appears that Spurs are still on the trail of their long-term transfer target.

The Latest: Spurs still in for Zaniolo

According to a recent report from Tuttomercatoweb, Spurs have the most interest in signing the 23-year-old amid further interest from other Premier League clubs.

The report also adds that with his current contract set to expire in 2024, Zaniolo's future at Roma is not certain as things stand.

The Verdict: A risky move for Conte

With 125 appearances for Roma under his belt, the midfielder has scored 24 goals and delivered 18 assists along the way. Despite being hailed for his "outstanding" performances for his current club in the past by journalist Andrew Southwick, the Italian's efforts in Serie A this season have been anything but.

Having made 11 appearances for Jose Mourinho's side, Zaniolo has only scored one goal and has yet to provide an assist for his team. In addition to that, despite having 22 shots at goal, only five of them have been on target.

Also, with a passing accuracy percentage of 63.1%, this makes him the worst passer in the Roma squad this season. Zaniolo has also failed to control the ball (34) more times than any other player in Mourinho's squad, as well as losing the ball after being tackled by an opponent (32) more than any of his teammates.

Taking all of this into account, it's safe to say that the midfielder's efforts this season have not made him look worthy of a place in Conte's squad, therefore making a potential move for the player a risky one.
