Tottenham Hotspur: Paul Robinson wowed by Ryan Sessegnon

Tottenham Hotspur: Paul Robinson wowed by Ryan Sessegnon - Tottenham Hotspur News

Speaking to Football Insider, Paul Robinson has claimed Ryan Sessegnon could become a ‘different player’ for Spurs upon his return from Hoffenheim – going on to say that Jose Mourinho will have a ‘close eye’ on his development.

Sessegnon, who burst on to the Tottenham scene with a debut goal in the Champions League away to Bayern Munich, was utilised very little after that under Mourinho – prompting the club to send him out on a loan spell to the Bundesliga.

Can you name these 10 former Spurs stars? Let's get started! Who is this?

Chairman Daniel Levy brought in Sergio Reguilon as a direct replacement for the youngster, with Sessegnon potentially facing a challenge in future to work his way back into the Spurs first team.

However, regular Sky Sports pundit Robinson claimed that the Englishman will return a different player and has tipped the defender to eventually battle his way back into contention.

Sessegnon breakdown

“I think Jose has got a close eye on him,” he told Football Insider.

“He has been unlucky with his injuries since he came in from Fulham and he never really had a run of games in the first team.

“With the quality that they have got at left-back now with Ben Davies and Sergio Reguilon the have got a lot of quality down that side. Opportunities are limited for Sessegnon at Spurs.

“He is just under the level that Jose wants but he is still a young lad. He has time to learn and develop his game.

“The year at Hoffenheim will do him the world of good and I think he will return for preseason next year a different player.

“I do not think Jose has written him off. He will keep a close eye on how he gets on at what is a top team in Hoffenheim.”

Transfer Tavern take

Described as a starlet who ‘needs to play‘ by Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic waxed lyrical over the ‘special’ youngster during his Fulham days.

Given his potential, it’s safe to say he could still be a key player for Spurs in the coming years.
