Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has given his insight into the 'crucial point' of talks between Tottenham Hotspur and Sporting Lisbon for Pedro Porro.

The Lowdown: A deal is close

Romano has previously spoken on the pursuit of the player from Antonio Conte's side, as he took to Twitter and claimed that the deal was 'really close' to being finalised.

The Premier League club have had their eyes on Porro throughout the entirety of January, and Sporting rejected a bid from Spurs earlier in the month, as they would only accept the price of his release clause which is reported to be €45m.

Should the 23-year-old complete the move to Tottenham it won't be his first stint in England, the Portuguese right-back was formally on the books with Manchester City.

The Latest: Romano outlines crucial point

Romano discussed the potential transfer on The Last Word On Spurs' YouTube channel, and the key aspect of the deal at the moment is the instalments of the fee agreed between Sporting and Tottenham.

He stated (4:02), "As of now, I would not be negative on this Pedro Porro deal honestly. I'm told there was another meeting today between Tottenham and Sporting through intermediaries discussing on the deal.

"What's going on is that Sporting are trying to get some money until the end and so they know that Tottenham are prepared to arrive around 45 million euros.

"But now the crucial point is about the instalments. So how many years to pay that money, so it will be two years, three years.

"So this is the point because it's not about triggering the clause, it's about paying the least close value 45 million [Euros] but in how many years? So this is the point of the negotiation."

The Verdict: Heaps of potential

We believe that Porro is a player that has bags of potential, at only 23-years-old he will only improve and develop as his career progresses.

Journalist Zach Lowry has raved about the player and described him as a 'special talent' when talking about him on Twitter. He also claimed he 'wouldn't be surprised' if either Real Madrid or Barcelona would make a move for Porro in the future.

Porro is already very experienced when playing at the top level in Europe, as he's featured in two different Champions League campaigns with Sporting Lisbon.

That's certainly an aspect that may have enticed Spurs, having a young talent who's already played at the highest level of European competition.

For Porro, it's an opportunity to be managed by an elite manager in Antonio Conte. The Tottenham boss has coached a number of top names in the game, including Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Pirlo and Eden Hazard.

Both parties will be excited by the prospect of a potential move. Porro gets a chance to play under a class European manager and Spurs get a young talent who's no stranger to the big stage.
