The 2020/2021 Premier League season is back underway, with a plethora of games having already taken place, and this afternoon Tottenham take on Everton to commence Jose Mourinho’s first full season in charge of the club.
Debuts await the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who signed from Southampton in the summer for £15 million, while Matt Doherty will also be anxious to make his first competitive appearance for the Lilywhites after transferring from Wolves.
Both Tottenham and Everton will have European qualification in their sights for the end of this season, with both clubs having tackled key issues in the transfer market – and here is how we think Mourinho’s side will line up for their first match of the season today.
Spurs are still in need of a striker to successfully back up star forward Harry Kane, but for now he is their only natural option up front and will be playing as the target man.
Meanwhile, an attacking three behind him of Son Heung-min, Dele Alli playing through the middle and Steven Bergwijn on the right hand side will have plenty of work to do against a reinforced Everton midfield containing Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Of course, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is most likely going to start alongside Moussa Sissoko – with the latter 6ft 2 man coming in for Giovani Lo Celso.
While Doherty and Ben Davies easily slot in the full-back areas, Transfer Tavern has decided to go with a centre-back pairing of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez – especially since the £43.2 million-valued ‘beast‘ complemented Dier well at times last season.
Club legend Hugo Lloris starts in-between the sticks, with summer free agent signing Joe Hart maybe having to settle for a place on the bench.
