Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison has been included in Brazil's squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

The Lowdown: The World Cup approaching

Spurs have two matches left to play before the season gets put on hold for the World Cup, with numerous players in Antonio Conte's squad likely to be in action throughout the tournament.

Wednesday sees the north London club take on Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup before their league clash against Leeds United at the weekend.

On Monday evening, one player in the Spurs squad had his place in his nation's squad confirmed, despite a questionable start to the season with the Lilywhites.

The Latest: Richarlison in Brazil's squad

As Brazil revealed their 26-man squad for the World Cup, Spurs' Richarlison found himself on the list alongside the likes of Neymar, Vinicius Jr and Raphinha, among others.

Some other Premier League figures such as Alisson, Ederson, Thiago Silva, Casemiro, Bruno Guimaraes, Fred, Lucas Paqueta, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli have also been selected to represent Brazil in the upcoming tournament.

The Verdict: A surprise inclusion

Even though the 25-year-old has been out of action for almost a month with a calf injury, it seems that this hasn't impacted his inclusion in the Brazil squad.

Neither has the fact that the attacker has only started four of his nine Premier League appearances this season and has failed to score in any of those, with his only two goals for the campaign coming against Marseille in their Champions League opener in early September.

His overall league performances have earned Richarlison, who has been slammed in the past by journalist Ben Grounds for his "ridiculous" actions on the pitch, a rather underwhelming season rating of 6.51/10 from WhoScored.

This puts him among some of the lowest-rated Spurs players to have started at least one league game this season.

Taking all that into account, it may come as a bit of a surprise that the £90k-per-week Tottenham figure has been included in the Brazil squad, even if his form at international level in 2022 had been decidedly better than in a Spurs shirt.
