Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Rodrigo Becao

Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Rodrigo Becao -Tottenham Hotspur News

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly one of the clubs interested in signing Udinese defender Rodrigo Becao.

The Lowdown: Spurs’ links with Italy

Spurs have a recent track record when it comes to signing players from Italian football, such as Rodrigo Bentancur, Ivan Perisic and Dejan Kulusevski.

Another player that the club have secured a deal for is Destiny Udogie, who was immediately loaned back to Udinese after signing a contract with Spurs back in August.

Now though, it appears that the north London club have their eye on signing another one of Udinese’s defensive figures.

The Latest: Spurs eyeing Becao

According to a recent report from Mondo Udinese, Spurs are ‘crazy’ about signing Becao as he would be a ‘perfect’ fit for Antonio Conte’s system.

The report also adds that fellow Premier League sides Everton and West Ham United have their eyes on the defender as well.

The Verdict: A smart signing for Spurs

With nine Serie A games under his belt this season, the defender has been able to score one goal and deliver one assist for his side, showing how useful he can be in both boxes.

In addition to that, the 26-year-old, who has had a reported price tag of around £10m put on him, has also racked up the fourth-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (31) at the club.

This is particularly impressive consider how the centre-back, who has been described as “insurmountable” in the past by journalist Bruno Queiroz, hasn’t always been in the team this season.

Bearing in mind how Conte’s side have conceded more goals (21) than the likes of Manchester United (20), Brighton (19) and Crystal Palace (18) this season, it could be said that bringing in some defensive reinforcements during the upcoming January transfer window should be a priority for the club.

This, therefore, could make signing Becao a smart move for the club, especially if Conte feels he’d be a good fit in the team.
