Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, Ruslan Malinovskyi, would be an ideal signing for Antonio Conte, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke

The Lowdown: Spurs linked with Malinovskyi

Last month, it was reported that Spurs, alongside fellow Premier League clubs West Ham and Nottingham Forest, are interested in signing the Atalanta midfielder.

With Spurs having a notable track record when it comes to signing players from Italy in recent times, it's no surprise that another one has turned up on their radar.

Now that the next January transfer window is approaching, it seems as though one journalist has backed the Lilywhites to try and land a deal for Malinovskyi, who has been hailed as 'extraordinary' by his manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

The Latest: O'Rourke's comments

Speaking to GiveMeSport, O'Rourke said that Malinovskyi has 'something Conte wants to add to his side', to score and create goals, adding that Spurs are 'definitely exploring' a January move.

"He’s a good player – a Ukrainian International who can play further forward in midfield, score goals and create goals.

"I think, ideally, that’s something Antonio Conte wants to add to his side – somebody who can maybe provide goals from midfield and also creates assists as well. Malinovskyi, I think, ticks a lot of boxes for Tottenham, and this is a deal they’re definitely exploring to try and do in January."

The Verdict: Spurs should sign Malinovskyi

Despite only starting five of Atalanta's 15 Serie A games this season, only two players have had more attempts at goal than Malinovskyi (19).

In addition to that, only two of his teammates have made more progressive passes than the Ukrainian (41), further highlighting how much of a creative midfield option he can be.

Given the lack of starts he had this season, moving to a club like Tottenham to play in the Champions League and Premier League under Conte would surely be a very tempting proposition for the player.

Taking all of this into account, we feel that Spurs should do all they can to secure the midfielder's signature in January.
