According to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, Tottenham Hotspur are set to miss out on Anthony Gordon after Everton have insisted that he is not for sale.

The Lowdown: Spurs ignite interest

The 21-year-old is an academy product of the Toffees and was one of the few players who impressed in what was a disappointing season at Goodison Park, despite Frank Lampard’s side managing to escape Premier League relegation.

The winger’s form caught the eye of a few potential suitors, including Newcastle United and the Lilywhites, who were said to be plotting a £20m bid, however, it sounds as though the Merseyside outfit are now doing everything in their powers to retain the services of their talented prospect.

The Latest: Gordon not for sale

Taking to Twitter, Ornstein revealed that Everton are standing firm in Gordon’s transfer situation, making a move to Tottenham highly unlikely. He said:

“Everton have no intention of selling Anthony Gordon amid enquiries from other PL clubs. Interest expressed during conversations but #EFC unwilling to consider 21yo’s exit. Likely new deal will be offered but not result of rival admiration.”

The Verdict: Not a priority

As much of an exciting young player he is, signing someone like Gordon shouldn’t be a priority for Antonio Conte at this moment in time.

Spurs have already raided the Toffees after securing the services of Richarlison, who can play out wide and central, so it doesn't appear vital for the club to spend more money in that area with Cone well-stocked in attack.

There’s a strong chance that Gordon, who was once dubbed a 'standout' player by Lampard, also wouldn’t be a regular starter given the amount of high quality the Italian already has in his squad, so it may not be sensible to buy another forward who wouldn't be guaranteed regular minuets in north London.
