Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has suggested that it ‘won’t be long’ until the club open talks with Harry Kane over a new contract.

The Lowdown: Uncertain future

The 29-year-old still has two years left on his current deal with the Premier League giants, but his future has been up in the air ever since Bayern Munich tried to sign him earlier in the summer.

Despite not landing him at the first time of asking, it’s believed that the Bundesliga outfit are willing to make a big-money second attempt next year.

The striker is said to be happy under Antonio Conte, but remains open-minded about a move having not yet entered discussions over remaining in the capital.

The Latest: Gold’s contract update

Asked during a Q&A for Football.London whether or not Tottenham had started talks with Kane over extending his stay, Gold responded:

“Nothing yet I'm afraid. Spurs haven't kicked those off as of this point but surely it won't be long.”

The Verdict: Tie him down

Kane is one of if not the most influential player in Spurs’ starting XI, which is why they need to do everything they can to fend off interest and convince him to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

The England captain, dubbed ‘world class’ by sports journalist Josh Bunting, has made a remarkable 314 goal contributions in just 395 appearances for the Lilywhites, and has already netted six goals and one assist in seven top-flight games this campaign (Transfermarkt).

The forward has played such a significant role in the club’s success over the years, and having now returned to the Champions League, will be hoping to help his side get their hands on some silverware come the end of the season.
