Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have held secret 'discussions' with Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane's agent, according to reliable Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Lowdown: Kane’s contract

The England captain has proven tricky to deal with when it comes to discussing a contract extension despite his obvious happiness with the club's current direction, with a whole debacle having emerged from his previous desire to join Manchester City.

The 29-year-old is under contract with the north London club until the summer of 2024, and Lilywhites manager Antonio Conte is keen to get his star player to put pen to paper on a new deal with the club.

The Latest: Kane to Bayern?

Bayern Munich have previously been touted with interest in the Tottenham forward, but it now seems the German outfit are making their move to secure his services.

Talking live on Sky Sports News, Sky Germany's Plettenberg revealed the behind-scenes contact.

As shared by Football Daily on Twitter, the journalist claimed:

"The discussions have already begun. He is the number one top target. There was contact between Bayern and Charlie Kane. Harry Kane can really, really imagine joining Bayern."

The Verdict: Huge blow

Kane’s scoring stats in a Lilywhites shirt are beyond impressive; in 393 appearances for the club, the England international has bagged an incredible 253 goals, making him Tottenham’s second all-time top scorer – coming in just behind Jimmy Greaves.

Statistical comparisons have shown Kane to be in the same bracket as the likes of Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski and Man City’s Erling Haaland (via FBRef).

Having already scored five goals in Spurs’ opening six Premier League games, Kane’s importance to the club is unparalleled.

The Tottenham hierarchy should do all they can to tie him down to a new long-term deal.
